The Bustair Factory

The morning started slowly as the first rays of light fell through the branches onto the bed. Mya was moving around under the covers with pleasure, but Janos was already on his feet, going over in his mind what he currently knew. He had instructed Regon to go to Kaledon and inform Rajj’ma of everything that had happened so far. Going there himself would have taken too long, for he suspected that Carusy would soon learn what had happened in Fosvail. In that case, he could leave and disappear at any time, leaving the Paladin without a trace again.

»Good morning! What are you doing up already? Don’t you want to sleep in?« Mya asked with satisfaction.

He looked over at her and smiled. »I’d love to, but unfortunately, your rescue set me back, and I have to make up for the lost time.«

As she stood up, he looked at her naked body. She noticed and gave him another good look at everything before she dressed again.

He created her breakfast, and she inquired, »What’s the plan?«

»Carusy is currently in Medow to sabotage the factory there. The Bustairs are a constant obstacle to his plans. First, he destabilized the Paladins and damaged their reputation; now, he’s taking on the mechanical guards. The students also went there. I’m sure they’ve found him by now. That means I need to know if they told him about the secret weapon.«

»And if so?«

He rubbed his chin. »Then I still need to find it. They know more that can help us. Besides, he may have confided details to them. I can’t defeat him alone, but I’ll definitely get the greenhorns.«

»All right, then, let’s go to Medow!« she returned with vigor.

»Remember, you’re going to keep a low profile!« he admonished her with a raised finger.

»Yes, I haven’t forgotten.«

Janos made their camp disappear and activated the travel gate to the city of the Bustairs. When they stepped outside, they stood in another somewhat darker forest.

»Do you know anything about Medow?« he asked Mya.

»Quite a lot, actually. I’ve been here several times to paint the Bustairs and capture the factory with images. The city is walled and sits right at a fork in the river. As you can see, it’s surrounded by a wooded area, so it’s well protected from the wind and weather.«

He looked around and said, »I guess that’s right.«

»The city is quite famous because of the factory here. You can’t really miss it. Also, Medow is known as the site of the Wizard Championships, the largest conjuring tournament in all of Zulkyn. It’s held annually across the river in a big valley,« she told him.

»If Carusy is here, then we will find him.«

They strolled along the forest path until they reached the city gate, where two Bustairs were already standing guard. Janos had again opted for a blue robe with a hood to not be immediately recognized as a Paladin.

»Where would the most wanted man of Ganomed be hiding?« Mya asked, letting her gaze wander.

The houses were made of wood and reinforced with metal.
